From Russia With Love…served in a Podstakannik
Tea customs in different countries intrigue me. I enjoy trying to recreate some as best I can to enjoy while I imagine I am visiting there.
I would love to visit the museums in Russia. I’ve been fortunate to see some of the wonderful Faberge and some of the incredible jewelry that has been in special museum exhibits here in the States over the years.
A friend gifted me with this beautiful Faberge book that I am reading today. Isn’t this Faberge Egg exquisite?
The Tardis is steeping Georgian Caravan Tea, a limited edition Maker’s Series from Steven Smith Teamaker, a gift from friend Marilyn. The box included this delicious huckleberry jam to stir into the tea as per the custom in Russia.
I’m sipping it from a favorite antique silver plated podstakannik which dates to the late 1800’s and nibbling on little Russian Tea Cake cookies.
Reading, sipping, sweets….a perfect way to enjoy tea time!
Cheers and Happy Sipping!

So glad you enjoyed the tea and jam for a very special tea time. I have always been fascinated by Faberge Eggs and I know that book would a delight to read as you sip your tea.
ReplyDeleteThe tea sounds interesting, Martha, I'd love to hear how it tasted! What a beautiful podstakannik, it looks lovely to drink from. What a nice afternoon tea time.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the Russia podstakannik, have always wanted some of those! And huckleberry jam sounds yummy too! Thanks for sharing.

Fun post! It reminded me of my recent visit to the Russian Tea Room in Chicago.
ReplyDeleteLove the international adventure! Thinking about my Russian themed tea where we welcomed Catherine the Great as our guest last September!
ReplyDeleteBravo!
ReplyDeleteSo interesting, Martha! I, too, would like to know how jam tastes in tea. Have always wondered ...
ReplyDeleteThanks to all of you for stopping by...
DeleteDenise and Mara both asked about the taste of jam in the tea. It was a first for me, but definitely won't be the last as I really enjoyed the touch of sweetness it added to the pure black tea.
The Huckleberry is not overly sweet to begin with so the jam was the perfect pairing in this case. I do think some jams might be too sweet or heavy. This was very enjoyable.
Intrigued by the jam-in-tea! I have to try that sometime. One of my cherished teacups is a Lomonosov teacup that used to be part of a pair. I gave the other one to one of the girls. I do love Russian porcelain!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have great tea moment with Russian Tea Room. I am glad you enjoyed the tea and jam, I enjoy reading too. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThe glass cup with Beautiful silver holder looks designed for the Royal Court, never knew they have a name . I love the thought of sipping tea from an exquisite vessel while gausing at one of a kind Faberge Egg. Where will Martha and The Doctor go next in the Tardis? More adventures for the fair Martha... Lucky Dr. Who
ReplyDeleteThanks! The Tardis is about ready to spin us off for another fun adventure....lipstick is involved! Stay tuned!
DeleteI really love the tradition in Russia of jam and tea! Nice post!
ReplyDeleteThanks, LaDonna.
DeleteI love it too. The huckleberry jam was especially enjoyable in the tea.
