Christmas Tea for Little Boys

We have two grandsons, one is 3 and the other 8 months.  I babysit one day a week for each of them.  One lives an hour and a half away and the other next door (we live in the country, so there are a couple fields between us).

Trips to the park are a favorite of the three year old.  He has 6 parks within walking distance of his house, but his favorite requires a short drive.  It has hiking trails, streams and a covered bridge.  He loves the wild animals and walking along the trails.  Play areas are interspersed along the trails.  With this unseasonably warm weather in Ohio, we are still able to visit the parks.

After our trip to the park, we have tea time.  I prepare and pack our things at my house.

Ham and Turkey Gingerbread Man, Christmas Tree Cheese and Crackers, Fruited Santa Hats, Red and Green Veggie Stix and a Rudolph Donut
And this was Grandma's tea.

Nothing goes to waste at our house.  We have chickens and cats that normally get the leftovers.   But this particular morning, Grandma was rushing a bit and didn’t have time for a second little fancy container.

And lest you think tea time with a grandson is a stuffy old lady affair, this is what he did to his Rudolph. “Oh look Grandma, he only has one eye.”  And since we are farmers, this wasn’t a reindeer, but a John Deere.

His dad says he is drinking syrup, not tea.  “Grandma, I want more sugar and tea.”  I believe that was pretty accurate.  “Could you get sugar and tea for me?”  “I got a tea bubble (while giggling).  I got it!”  He loves slurping the tea off his spoon after he stirs.  He commented several times, “I like tea Grandma, I do!”

At the end of tea time, when his cup of tea was cool, he commented, “Its coldy brrrr Grandma.”  I commented on his wet shirt.  His response was, “I spilled a “little” bit.”  And “It will be okay . . . my shirt will dry down Grandma.”
We had a very pleasant day and loved making memories.

Sips and Smiles,
Teresa

  3. Making memories is the very best. Loved seeing his tea time. I have a 3 year old grandson that would love this tea time. Today we had a sleep over and he had toast cut in the shape of apples spread with peanut butter and jelly. He had to sing the peanut butter song for me.

  4. Oh, I'm so glad I slowed down long enough to read this. I truly enjoyed it and was blessed by all the little moments. It cracked me up to see your sandwich with the gaping hole! That's love right there! I run a Daycare so I think I will try to do those sandwiches today. Hugs and a cup of tea!
